Same as Whirlpool but cost more

The KitchenAid 15" Automatic Ice Maker is the same as the 15" Whirlpool Ice Maker but it cost more by about $400.00. The only difference was that the KitchenAid was panel ready. Whirlpool previously made their model panel ready but they seem to have discontinued that option. The panel ready feature is important if you want your ice maker to match your cabinets. I have owned both the Whirlpool and the KitchenAid 15" ice makers and they are exactly alike on the inside since Whirlpool owns KitchenAid. After 4 months my drain pump failed and had to be replaced. Fortunately it was still under warrantee or it would have cost $500 for the drain pump plus labor. As far as the ice making goes, the machine does put out crystal clear square ½ c ½ inch cubes. As with all ice makers, the user needs to clean the machine at least every 6 months to de-scale the mineral buildup, if you don't, expect mold and gunk in your machine.

This was suppose to be an under counter flush mount application. unfortunately, after following manufactures install instructions , it does not fit as described.

We built our new home last year, excited to furnish our kitchen completely with all KitchenAid appliances. I would question the quality control from the factory concerning the loose wire found in the ice machine. I understand it happens, however checks and balances must be in place to ensure quality products are being delivered by reputation! I will certainly continue to purchase and enjoy our decision to make KitchenAid our choice.

Excellent. My wife says we can’t live without.

It’s been great. We’ve had in service for about three months. I little slow to get started producing from off. But once it’s gets going it’s fast. Mine is a panel ready and I don’t like the way it attaches and the door design for panel ready was definitely an afterthought. That is why 4 instead of 5 stars. Little pricey to have an afterthought door design.

This is the second ice maker purchased due to failure of the first once after 4 years. This ice maker is now also failing with the ice machine continually making ice until the unit overflows.
