It is an awful design

I guess I didn't know how good my maytag was until I bought a kitchenaid. So look it compacts garbage, sure, and does a great job at that, if you can stand the stink long enough to keep the garbage in the house to compact it, that is! The door doesn't seal, it is loose and let's the smells and odors out; it's cheap and not the quality of expect from KA. The fan and air freshener are a joke and its noisy so you don't want to leave it run forever. I do see why they put it in being the poor design. I wanted my maytag back but they already disposed of it!

We purchased this compactor to replace a previous unit. Service had to be done within two weeks as a retaining pin in the foot button had fallen out as it had no retainer. This unit has a door release at the bottom made of plastic. When the door is closed the plastic bar makes a rattle which indicates how cheaply it is built. There is no way a designer for this product did not hear the sound but obviously did not care.

Like the sleek looks!

I love my Kitchenaid compactor. Never any smelling garbage around because of built in deodorizer and it is so easy to use. Love all the features on this compactor,

I had this installed along with my other stainless steel appliances; I love it, It is streamlined and the stainless steel elevates it far above a 'trash container! Compacts the trash very effectively, and has a slot for an air freshner that works great!

Quality a little over-stated

We bought this to replace a compactor that we used for 15 years. The Kitchen Aid is not as sturdy as our previous compactor of another brand. For the cost, almost $900.00(at an Outlet store), I certainly expected better. My husband had to re adjust it before we could use it. It wouldn't open or shut properly. He found the tracks in the back were poorly constructed. Doubt this will last 15 years :(
