I've only had it for 3 years and it no longer works. The hardest part about it is that Whirlpool has not answered my email from a month ago as I'm trying to figure out if i can repair it or buy the part I require. Basically some wires burnt out.

This microwave came new with the townhouse we bought three years ago. Worked well up until recently when we started having intermittent arcing issues above the control panel (but not in the heating compartment). The problem continued to get worse until the point where the arcing happens every time and we start getting an electrical burning smell if we run it for more than a few seconds. The microwave is basically non-functional at this point. Had a certified Whirlpool service technician look at it, and the issue is a burnt out diode from a fautly magnetron. Quoted cost of repair: $535 CAD (which is almost twice the value of the microwave) and they are going to charge $150 CAD for the quote (as per Whirlpool's service call requirements) if we don't proceed with the repair. My expection for microwaves is that they last around 5-10 years before having issues, and this appliance has failed miserably in this respect. Reading the other recent reviews on this site, it seems that I'm not the only one that has encountered issues with this product. We have not decided what we are going to do yet, but we'll be without a microwave until we do. As a side note, all the appliances in the townhouse are Whirlpool brand, and we have already had to do a repair on the dishwasher earlier this year as well. Although Whirlpool made an effort to help us out with the cost of the part for that repair (which was appreciated!), this being the second appliance failing, it makes me question the overall quality of the Whirlpool brand.

Literally stopped working overnight. Does not heat food and is now just an annoyance sitting above our range. Got a mere three years of use. Unacceptable for the price point.
